I watched God work through Tanner at a powerlifting meet today. Just like his older brother Taylor, God gifted Tanner with strength. Freakish strength.
Since a sophomore Tanner has qualified for regionals in powerlifting and barely missed qualifying for the state meet. Today he set four meet records. Two of them were immediately broken by the guy squatting behind him. Two of them stood. He squatted 610 and 630. The guy behind him squatted 650. Tanner then benched 375 then 385 for meet records. He deadlifted his personal best by 35 pounds at 515. At the end of the day Tanner won second place failing to get first by 10 pounds.
The crazy thing is he definitely has room to improve on his squat and deadlift and possibly gain in his bench press as well. I am very proud of him. Taylor qualified as a state powerlifter when he was a senior. Tanner is following in his footsteps.
No matter how much either of those boys can lift I know the day will come when life is heavier than what they can squat, press or pull up. Life is heavy at times. Extremely heavy. A young minister not long married had brain surgery to remove a large tumor yesterday. That is extremely burdensome. My brother in law just lost his father to cancer. Grief is oppressive. People are getting laid off from work. That is weighty. People fight to save their marriages. Tucker is rehabbing from knee surgery. That is not something he can overcome on his own.
Like I said, life is heavy. I don't care how much a person can squat, bench and deadlift, sooner or later life will throw something so big that only God can lift it. So we need to get in the habit of casting our burdens on Him right now.
Psalm 55:22 (NASB)
22 Cast
your burden upon the LORD and He
will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be
shaken.
Life is heavy but God is stronger. Rely on Him.
