If You Are Willing

Jesus is able. He is able to do whatever concerns you today. Most of us know that. It is not a question of ability. We know Jesus is able. He has the ability and power to do anything.

I read a passage this morning that made me pray differently. Prayer is more than just about Jesus being able. Here is the passage.

Matthew 8:1-4 (ESV)
1  When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
2  And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”
3  And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4  And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

It is not a matter of ability. It is a matter of will. The word will means to "desire or to intend." So as I prayed this morning I asked Jesus to will to answer the many petitions I laid before Him. Prayers for healing, provision, anointing, and opportunities.

Sometimes it seems we pray like we have to pry answers from the Master. That is not the picture I get from reading the story of the leper. The leper came to Jesus in humility and sincerity with a real need. He did not question Jesus' ability. He knew it was just a matter of Jesus' willingness.

In your life is it any different for us? Does it come down to Jesus' willingness for us. Does He still desire to come to our aid and help us where we need it most? Does He desire and intend to help us? I believe He still does.

Now He does it in His timing and in His way. His timing and ours are often different. His ways are often unique and not the way we planned.

What do you need Him to do for you today? Will you come and ask if He is willing? Today could be your breakthrough just like the leper experienced.
