A day of reckoning is coming. A day of terror from the Lord as He brings judgment on all those who reject Him, worship idols, and try to exalt themselves. They will be brought low. They will find sheer terror facing holy God.
On that day idols made with human hands will be worthless. They will not be able to help in the day of God's wrath. There will be no hiding place. No cave in a mountain will be high enough. No burrow will be deep enough. There will be no place to escape from God's penetrating gaze and His burning anger.
Isaiah 2:6-22 (ESV)
6 For you have rejected your people, the
house of Jacob, because they are full of things from
the east and of fortune-tellers like the
Philistines, and they strike hands with the children
of foreigners.

Their land is filled with silver and gold, and
there is no end to their treasures; their land is
filled with horses, and there is no end to their
chariots.
8
Their land is filled with idols; they bow down
to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers
have made.
9
So man is humbled, and each one is brought
low— do not forgive them!
10 Enter into the rock
and hide in the dust from before
the terror of the LORD,
and from the splendor of his majesty.
11 The haughty looks of
man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall
be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that
day.

For the LORD of
hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty,
against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought
low;
13
against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and
lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan;
14 against all
the lofty mountains, and against all the uplifted
hills;
15
against every high tower, and against every
fortified wall;
16
against all the ships of Tarshish, and against
all the beautiful craft.
17 And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled,
and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low,
and the LORD
alone will be exalted in that day.
18 And the idols shall utterly pass away.
19 And people shall
enter the caves of the rocks and the holes of the
ground, from before the terror of the LORD, and
from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to
terrify the earth.

In that day mankind will cast away their idols
of silver and their idols of gold, which they made
for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the
bats,
21
to enter the caverns of the rocks and the
clefts of the cliffs, from before the terror of the
LORD, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth.
22 Stop regarding man
in whose nostrils is breath, for
of what account is he?
That will be a day of weeping and gnashing of teeth. It will be a day of sorrows. It will be a day of immense fear without hope of escape.No place to run for refuge and no place to hide from day of the Lord. The rich will be vulnerable behind their fortresses. Kings will not be safe behind their palaces. The country folks will find no solace in the woods nor the suburbanites behind their gated communities.
Revelation 6:12-17 (ESV)

When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a
great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became
like blood,
13 and the stars of the
sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a
gale.
14 The sky vanished like a
scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from
its place.
15 Then the kings of the
earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and
everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the
mountains,
16 calling to the
mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated
on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,
17
for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”
And for all left to live through that day our only hope will be JESUS. Our only Deliverer is Jesus. Our only Savior is Jesus. Our only Rescuer is Jesus. [Jn 3:16] [Rom 5:8-9] [II Cor 5:21]
So while people eat, play, marry, work, recreate, and go through life day in and day out does it ever come to mind a day of reckoning is coming. Each will stand before holy God and give an account for their lives. A day of triumphant hope for the saved. A day of terror for unbelievers. It is time to get prepared for that day if you have not done so already.
The time of grace is now. The time of mercy is now. On the day of reckoning when we each stand before God it will be too late. We must repent and cry out to Him for mercy while there is still time.
